March in your Apiary

March in the Apiary

  • Check stores by hefting hives and supplement with fondant if required, if the weather is warmer feed light syrup (1lb sugar to 1 pint of water).
  • Remove mouse guards and other winter protection.
  • If weather is warmer (about 14o C) then a quick inspection can be carried out.
  • Now is a good time to change the floor for a clean one, even if using open mesh floors.
  • Monitor for Varroa.
  • If feeding for stimulation be vigilant for early swarms.
  • Start your new seasons records.
  • Write an article for NSBKA Beelines! All contributions gratefully received!
