Early farmers used beehive products 8,500 years ago

The distinctive chemical 'fingerprint' of beeswax has been detected in many remains of pottery vessels from Neolithic sites across Europe. This shows that there has been an association between humans and honeybees and their products at least as far back as the Stone Age.

The Association maintains an apiary at an organic farm in North Shropshire. We hold regular meetings at the apiary during the summer, where members old and new can gain experience in handling bees.
