Please be vigilant and examine your colonies carefully, advising us if you have concerns. For help in recognizing disease, you can view our Foul Brood leaflet, or for more information or to register your details please visit BeeBase online at http://www.nationalbeeunit.com
Priority Inspection Visits of apiaries will be continued in areas where disease has been confirmed. Your help and co-operation is, as always, greatly appreciated in completing these visits as swiftly as possible.

If you have moved colonies into, or out of these areas since your last visit from the Bee Inspector - please advise us at your earliest convenience or update BeeBase accordingly.

Good apiary hygiene and barrier methods should be enforced i.e.

  • regular inspection of colonies for disease
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) hygiene - clean disposable gloves, clean beesuits, wash honey/nectar off wellies
  • Consideration of disease implications before moving colonies or frames between colonies
  • Sterilising/disinfecting hive parts before use
  • Use of isolation sites for new stock or swarms - for 6 weeks
  • Regular changing of combs
  • Treating whole sites as one unit
  • Hygiene of vehicles
  • Closing up and removal of dead colonies to prevent robbing
  • Hives numbered, boxes to go back to same hive or site to prevent spread of disease
